Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what data SHOWMYIP (“we”, “us”) collects, why, and what choices you have. It applies to the SHOWMYIP website, dashboard, and API (the “Service”).

1. Data we collect

Account data — your email address and a securely hashed password. We do not store your password in readable form.
Billing data — if you subscribe to a paid plan, your payment is handled by our payment processor (Stripe). We receive limited information such as your subscription status and invoices; we never receive or store your full card number.
Query data — the IP addresses you look up and the results returned, retained so we can show your usage, enforce quotas, and improve the Service.
Usage & technical data — API request counts, log data, and the technical details needed to operate and secure the Service.

2. How we use data

to provide, maintain, and secure the Service;
to authenticate you and issue and meter API keys;
to process payments and send transactional email (verification, password reset, receipts, and important account notices);
to enforce quotas, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations;
to understand usage in aggregate and improve our data and features.

3. Legal bases

Where applicable law (such as the GDPR) requires it, we rely on: performance of our contract with you (to provide the Service); our legitimate interests (to secure and improve the Service and prevent abuse); your consent (where specifically requested); and compliance with legal obligations.

4. About the IP addresses you submit

The Service exists to analyze IP addresses. When you submit an IP for lookup, we process and may retain it as part of your query history and our aggregate intelligence. An IP address can in some circumstances relate to an identifiable person; you are responsible for having a lawful basis to submit the IPs you query, and for using the results lawfully.

5. Cookies

We use only the cookies necessary to run the Service — primarily a session cookie to keep you signed in and a security token to protect forms. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

6. Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with service providers that help us operate the Service (such as our payment processor and hosting and email providers), under contracts that limit their use of it, and where required by law or to protect our rights and the safety of others.

7. Retention

We keep account data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. Query and usage history is retained to power your dashboard and our intelligence, and may be retained in aggregated or de-identified form thereafter. We delete or anonymize data when it is no longer needed, subject to legal retention requirements.

8. Security

We protect data with encryption in transit, hashed credentials, encrypted storage of sensitive secrets, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to notify you of incidents where required.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can update your email or password, and delete your account, from your dashboard, or contact us to exercise any of these rights. We will not discriminate against you for exercising them.

10. International transfers

We and our providers may process data in countries other than yours. Where we transfer personal data internationally, we use appropriate safeguards as required by applicable law.

11. Children

The Service is not directed to children and is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

12. Changes

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will update the “last updated” date above and, for material changes, take additional steps to notify you where appropriate.
